What Is the Difference Between Fixed, Swivel, and Cargo Wakeboard Racks?
Choosing the right wakeboard tower rack depends on how you store, access, and transport your boards. Monster Tower offers fixed racks, swivel racks, and cargo rack biminis to fit different boating needs.
Fixed vs. Swivel Wakeboard Racks
Fixed and swivel wakeboard racks are designed to hold wakeboards, water skis, kneeboards, and surfboards. The primary difference is how the rack is mounted to the tower and how the boards are accessed.
Fixed wakeboard racks remain in a stationary position once mounted. Boards stay in the same position at all times, providing a simple and secure storage solution. Fixed racks can also be converted into swivel racks by adding a swivel mount.
Swivel wakeboard racks are designed to rotate inward toward the boat. This rotating mechanism allows riders and passengers to access the board from inside the boat, making loading and unloading easier without having to lean over the side of the boat.
Both rack types feature anodized aluminum construction, quick-release mechanisms, and thick rubber bumpers. Monster Tower racks are also backed by a 5-year warranty.
Cargo Rack Bimini
The Cargo Rack Bimini differs from traditional wakeboard tower racks by combining board storage and sun protection into one system.
Instead of using individual forks, the cargo rack bimini uses a flexible bungee cord system that stretches to secure up to two wakeboards, kneeboards, surfboards, or water skis. It can also hold one inflatable.
Because the cargo rack bimini mounts overhead, it provides additional deck space but slightly reduces passenger headroom. It is designed for quick removal and offers universal compatibility with most wakeboard towers, especially cage-style towers.
Why Do I Need a Wakeboard Rack?
Wakeboard racks keep your boards secure and off the deck, helping to:
- Prevent dings and scratches
- Reduce clutter and tripping hazards
- Maximize usable deck space
- Improve organization
Storing boards on tower racks keeps your boat cleaner, safer, and more functional.
I Don’t Have a Monster Tower - Will These Wakeboard Racks Fit My Tower?
Monster Tower wakeboard racks are designed to fit most towers.
- Universal inserts fit tubing from 1.625” to 2.5”
- Swivel racks use size-specific inserts (1 ⅞”-2.5”)
- Cargo Rack Bimini fits most wakeboard towers
This ensures compatibility with both Monster and non-Monster towers.
What Does Anodized Mean?
All Monster Tower racks are anodized for marine durability.
Anodizing creates a corrosion-resistant layer that protects aluminum from saltwater, moisture, and UV exposure making it ideal for long-term boating use.
How Do I Know My Board Will Fit?
Monster Tower racks are adjustable to fit most board sizes:
- Wakeboards: up to 1.25” thick
- Kneeboards: up to 4” thick
- Surfboards: up to 2 ¾” thick
- Cargo Rack: flexible bungee system
Can I Remove Wakeboard Racks for Storage?
Yes. All racks feature quick-release mechanisms for fast removal.
- Fixed and swivel racks detach in seconds
- Swivel racks rotate inward for trailering
- Cargo rack bimini uses a ball-and-socket mount
This makes storage and transport simple.
Do Wakeboard Racks Require Maintenance?
Wakeboard racks are built for durability, but a little routine care will keep them performing and looking like new. Regular cleaning and simple checks ensure your racks stay secure, corrosion-free, and ready for every day on the water.
Seasonal Cleaning
Wash with mild soap and water. Rinse after saltwater use.
Trailering
Remove racks when possible or use rack covers.
Tighten Hardware
Check clamps and mounts every 30 hours of use.
